SLAT is a pick you might remember. I made it a stock to watch a few months ago and I think we could see it make a nice gian for our club in the short term based upon a recent PR.
SLAT is in a niche market that I think is starting to become HUGE! SLAT is in the Lithium Ion Market! With all the new hybrid cars coming out Lithium plays are about to become a new HOT sector and I think SLAT will be one of the unique small-caps to capitalize!
Power production has a new standard. Superlattice exhibits power, safety, and environmental concern at a level above anything else. Hybrid Technologies has taken Superlattice from a laboratory scale to industrial scale, and are pioneers in producing nano and submicron materials on a large scale.
SLAT has taken a step ahead to pioneer Superlattice Cathode Material for the use in Lithium Ion Rechargeable. SLAT has successfully introduced Superlattice nano and submicron materials from laboratory to industrial scale.
Superlattice structure is a hexagonal structure and can accommodate more Lithium and more energy. The elements and specially transition metals have been selected precisely to make Superlattice cathode materials safe, environmentally friendly and less expensive.
Lithium ion batteries are rechargeable and composed of cathode, anode, separator and electrolyte composed of LiPF6 or different salts dissolved in different non aqueous solvent.
Lithium Ion Battery is the potential source of rechargeable storage system since it has the capability to provide highest gravimetric (Wh/kg) and volumetric energy density (Wh/L).
Figure 1 shows a comparison between different rechargeable batteries.
Everything from scooters, bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, cars and homes are being converted successfully to zero-emission, lithium-powered vehicles and facilities!
SLAT is developing lithium ion batteries for electric as well as hybrid vehicles! Working with EV Innovations Inc., SLAT has developed a robust lithium ion battery pack system which is tested in more than 10 vehicles for nearly 2000 miles each. However, the battery packs used in these vehicles are designed for charging rates which are lower than 0.5C. The new design developed at SLAT is capable of handling more than 2.5 C rates which means the battery pack can be charged to 80% capacity in less than 30 minutes! The components and accessories that are being modified in the first prototype include charging protocol, Battery Management System, thermal management system, charger (EV Innovations' design), battery pack casing and compact, high current bus bar and electrical system!
Apart from developing the fast charge lithium ion battery pack, the other objectives of this project are to optimize the capacity and miles per fast charge in the battery pack. Research and development activities in SLAT focus on the design and development of lithium ion electrode materials and cells as well as second generation Battery Management System.
***What caught my eye about SLAT is the fact that they just recently announced a three-for-one forward stock split which will be effective for shareholders of record as of October 12, 2009, or on such later effective date as is approved by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. This could be HUGE! This means I think before October 12th we could see a nice run in this issue because investors and shareholders will want to get their extra shares (3 shares for every 1) and then once the split happens and the stock is much lower we could possibly see another HUGE run when it is back down to a much lower PPS! The main reason why I think this is a BULLISH sign for investors because I think this could create a huge short covering which could send the stock flying! When you do a split like this you catch all the shorts with their pants down and they have to cover! ***

SLAT has completed the design of fast charge lithium ion battery pack in order to qualify them for EV Innovations Inc.'s (OTC.BB:EVII - News) LiV(TM) series electric vehicles. The first prototype of this battery pack will be developed and delivered by the end of November this year!
