Future Promises of Modern Medicine and How Stem Cells will Deliver

On the early morning of September 25th 1999, Michaels wife Nicky, was heading out to run a few errands in preparation for their daughters 2nd birthday. The morning started out hectic with the weather not making matters any easier. It had been raining for two days straight and was expected to stop by mid morning. Nicky decides to head out during the rain storm in hopes itll lighten up, on the way to pick up the balloons and then the cake. On her way to the store, she stops for some gas on the corner intersection of the highway, Gas Depot. She pays and pulls out of the station. She merges onto the highway relieved she made it as the light turned red before the oncoming traffic. She adjusts her rearview mirror and sees a symbol read MACK rapidly approaching. It was all too late, as youre probably are guessing, that MACK was a truck that was carrying a 20 ton payload, had rushed pass the red light. Nickys car had been crushed and had been wrapped around a pole. The car was disseminated with no sign of a make or model of the car. Several pieces were spewed along the highway. Nancy however did manage to survive the awful accident but was in critical condition. Nancy fell into a deep coma for 9 months. She was paralyzed from the neck down with 0% probability of ever walking again. She had no hope of walking or having upper body movement. Nicky now endures a difficult helpless life with her husband and daughter. Nicky can never move again.

In 2008, things started to look brighter. A new comer had come aboard vowing to provide hope for the immobile, sick, and the elderly. It is he who promises to improve the new way of life of no suffering and in part, that's because it seems to offer hope as a way to produce new treatments to cure the devastating diseases a human can ever endure. This new science has shown great promises to cure or even rehabilitate a paralyzed individual without enduring evasive surgery or inducing several medications at a time. It is he who vows to change history and provide a new direction for science and medical research into Stem Cell technology for the future generations to come.

On March 9, 2009, history was made -the newly elected President Obama had delivered his promise by abolishing the contentious Bush-era restraints on stem-cell research. The action by the president will, in effect, allow scientists to create their own guidelines without proper moral restraints. One company this summer will begin the world's first study of a treatment using human embryonic stem cells, in people who recently suffered spinal cord injuries. Research institutions on Monday were gearing up to ask for more freely flowing federal money, and the National Institutes of Health was creating guidelines on how to hand it out and include ethical constraints.

What is Stem Cell?

Stem cells are unprogrammed cells in the human body that can be described as "shape shifters." These cells have the ability to change into other types of cells. Stem cells are at the center of a new field of science called reparative or regenerative medicine. Because stem cells can become bone, muscle, cartilage and other specialized types of cells, they have the potential to treat many diseases, including Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, diabetes and cancer. Eventually, they may also be used to regenerate organs, reducing the need for organ transplants and related surgeries. Stem cells can typically be broken into four types:

: Embryonic stem cells - Stem cells taken from human embryos

Fetal stem cells- Stem cells taken from aborted fetal tissue

Umbilical stem cells - Stem cells take from umbilical cords

Adult stem cells - Stem cells taken from adult tissue

Embryonic and fetal stem cells have the potential to morph into a greater variety of cells than adult stem cells do. You can research more on Stem Cell here - http://stemcells.nih.gov/info/basics/

Future Promises

Imagine the promises, stem cell can one day provide Nancy the ability to walk again. It was that day Nancy began believing in Hope. It was that day that dreams came true for many that suffer from spinal injuries such as (Christopher Reeve); or Parkinson's (Michael J. Fox) and juvenile diabetes (Jerry and Janet Zucker and Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher).

If we could look into the future and see the full capabilities the new science of stem cell rejuvenating would deliver just as IBM once did by introducing the first computer that revolutionized human technology. Stem cell will also one day revolutionize humanity and provide hope for the incurable or the immobile, for the hopes like Nancy or Mr. Reeves or even Michael J. Fox.

The Future Promises of Modern Medicine and How Stem Cell will Deliver

Tomorrows future begins with todays actions. With new funding provided by the government, the US may now begin towards a new journey of medical science for which our country has fallen well behind the research of the likes of Japan and Europe. We will become the worlds leaders. Supporters contend that embryonic stem cell research has shown the most promise for growing replacements for damaged tissue, which could lead to treatments for myriad diseases including diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and spinal cord injuries. Todays Neuralstem Inc (CUR) will one day be Sun Microsystems (Java), StemCell Inc (STEM) will be one day, be tomorrows next IBM, todays Geron Corp. (GERN) will one day be, tomorrows next Google, and todays Cytori Therapeutics Inc (CYTX) will one day be, tomorrows next Apple. (Side not) Cell Therapeutics Inc. (CTIC) has just begun to demonstrate the returns one can be rewarded with. These are our leaders for tomorrow. They will lead us to the next level of modern day medicine.

I suggest reading the book The Stem Cell Divide by Michael Bellomo which discusses the political referendum and influence of reform of stem cell research. There will be several start-up companies that provide assistance to companies mentioned above. With each dollar invested, the human race will soon rid of the common diseases. Now is the perfect opportunity to invest for tomorrows future. Stem Cell is here to stay with the assistance of government funding and the Promises of tomorrows cure!!!
